CADE authorises the acquisition of Imcopa assets by Bunge
Merger and Acquisition
In the hearing of this Wednesday (4 November), the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) approved the acquisition of industrial facilities held by Imcopa in the cities of Araucária and Cambé, in the Brazilian state of Paraná, by the firm Bunge Alimentos.
In Brazil, the Bunge group buys, stocks, transports, processes and/or sells agricultural commodities and basic products, in addition to vegetable oils and high protein foods, grains, flours, baking mix, milled corn-based products and packed vegetable oils. On the other hand, the firm Imcopa, which is currently financial restructuring, processes, stores and distributes products derived from soybean, such as lecithin, oil, protein concentrate bran, alcohol, among others.
The acquisition has already been authorised in September by the General Superintendence of CADE, but the Administrative Tribunal requested it for a final decision. The rapporteur commissioner Sérgio Ravagnani considered in the review of the case that despite the transaction results in high market concentration and although high barriers to entry the market exist for new players, the competition in the specific market allows the approval of the case.
Based on such aspects, the Tribunal decided to uphold the General Superintendence opinion to approve the transaction without restrictions.
